Kirsten Dirksen recently came out to the homestead and spent the day walking through every part of what I have built here.
In this 30 minute interview, we go through the cabin, the land, the water systems, the animals, the fence lines, and the long term thinking behind why everything is laid out the way it is. Nothing was staged. It was just a real walk through of the property and an honest conversation about how and why I live this way.
Kirsten has been documenting alternative living for many years, and I have watched her work since the early days of building this place. It was an honor to have her here and to be able to explain the systems based approach I use around Shelter, Water, Food, Power, and Income.
If you are new here, this interview gives a broad overview of the entire homestead and the philosophy behind it.
If you have been following along for a while, this video ties many of the individual projects together into one clear picture.
You can watch the full interview below.
If you would like a deeper explanation of the mindset behind off grid living and why it can feel complicated or even illegal at times, you can also read and watch my recent video here:
Why Living Off Grid Feels Illegal (Even When It’s Not)
As always, this is about building structure over time, reducing pressure, and creating a life that is sustainable long term.
