The Four-Step Off-Grid Land System

Step 1: Choose a County
Start with the county before you start shopping for land. The rules determine whether the homestead you want to build is realistically possible.
Step 2: Find Land
Once you have identified a county that may work for your plans, use the Land Locator to begin narrowing the search to actual properties in that area.
Step 3: Verify Before You Buy
Run the property through the Land Selection Checklist so you can think through zoning, access, water, boundaries, wastewater, and the other details that should be understood before you commit.
Step 4: Build Your Homestead
Once you understand where you are building and what you are working with, Step 4 brings the homestead itself into focus.
This is where shelter, water, food, power, and income begin working together as one system.
