I've lived off grid going on six years now. In this new video I'll talk about how starting my debt free, off grid living homestead made it possible for me to build my dream cabin in cash.
Before I dive into how this cabin came together…
I’ve put together a free off-grid starter guide that explains the order I built systems (shelter, water, power, food) so you don’t waste time or money.
I was laid off in 2020 when I decided to buy cheap high desert land to stay my frugal homestead. Buying less desirable land allowed me to pay in full. Property tax is negligible and I eliminated the need to pay mortgage. Sure, it was a tough start, living in my campers and going without for years but this allowed me to build a home that I own out right.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is focusing on the looks of a build before understanding systems that matter first — like water access and structural basics.
If you want a step-by-step approach that shows the right order to build and avoid costly missteps, download my free off-grid starter guide.
I put in systems long before I built my cabin, shelter, water, food were all covered. I started a business and created several sources of income. Arguably one of my strengths. With all my basic needs met it was much easier to get started on my home.
Final thought:
A beautiful off-grid build is awesome — but it’s only part of a working homestead.
