Going Back to My Original Frugal Off-Grid Content Style | Six Years Off Grid

For the past several months, I’ve spent a lot of time building the educational side of Frugal Off Grid. I’ve focused heavily on systems, orientation, reducing uncertainty, and helping people understand how to start an off-grid homestead in a practical and sustainable way.

That phase was necessary.

When I first moved off grid over six years ago, I really didn’t know how to make videos. Most of my early content was basically just me setting up a camera and documenting real life as I slowly built this place from raw land. It almost felt more like a video diary than content creation.

But people connected with it.

A lot of the older videos were quiet. Less polished. Less scripted. More focused on simply showing the reality of everyday off-grid life.

So today, I decided to go back to that original style a little bit.

This video is slower and more observational. There’s a lot less talking and a lot more real homestead sound: chickens, horses, dogs, cats, watering, footsteps, sweeping floors, leaves crunching underfoot, and the normal sounds of a real morning off grid.

Toward the end of the video, I talk more openly about what’s been going on lately, including hurting my back moving railroad ties, slowing down the fencing project, shifting away from trying to do every single thing myself, hiring help when necessary, getting my farm truck back up and running, and balancing the homestead, physical work, and the business.

I still care deeply about practical off-grid education and helping people reduce uncertainty around building a homestead. That isn’t going away. But I also think it’s important to get back to simply documenting real life and long-term progress over time.

So for now, I’m going to experiment with making more videos like this every Saturday and see how it feels for both me and the audience.
