Why I Recorded the Storm

Most of the videos on my channel document the practical work of building and maintaining an off-grid homestead. This recording is a little different. Instead of explaining the systems, I wanted to share the actual atmosphere of being here during a storm.
You can hear the rain hitting the cabin while the storm moves across the property. It is a simple recording, but it captures a real part of off-grid life that is difficult to communicate in a normal instructional video.

Arizona Monsoon Rain and Off-Grid Water
Rainfall in the high desert can be unpredictable. Long dry periods may be followed by a short storm that drops a surprising amount of water in a small area.
Because of that, I use several systems to slow, collect, and store water on the property. These include roof collection, underground cisterns, ponds, swales, berms, and other simple water-harvesting methods.
The sound in this recording is relaxing, but the rain itself is also part of a much larger system. Every storm is an opportunity to move water into the soil, refill storage, and prepare the homestead for the next dry period.
